I've been experimenting with different ways to connect two pieces of hardware cloth where there is no wooden frame to attach the wire. I tried weaving wire in and out of the holes (a pain! difficult and time consuming), nylon cord (almost as time consuming as the wire, not as secure), and finally zip ties rated for outdoor use (quicker than the other two, but I was concerned about security).

Then I ordered some of these loxit clips:

I think I'm in love! Quicker to apply than zip ties. More secure! Cheaper than zip ties, too.

By the way, I also ordered this feeder and waterer from Randall Burkey:

All I had to do is add a cover to the feeder...I used an old takeout lid. I really like the waterers because the broad base and shape assure that it won't get knocked over.

My order was delivered lickety split, too.

Yup, I went through the same process as you did, with weaving wire... then zip ties...and now c-clips or whatever they're called. The one thing I did wrong was to buy the tool that was supposedly especially made to use the c-clips...it was nothing more than a plier. Oh well. Yep, they work great!

That is what we have used for many years and I *love* them. We used them in all of our parrot flights and they have even successfully held together Macaw and Cockatoo cages. The other thing I love about them is that they make frames for the cages unnecessary. A couple of our new chicken/duck runs are made out of 16 gauge welded wire held together with the clips and even at 14 feet long required no frames.

I had the same issue and came up with a bit of a different solution...but no pic to show you.

I used a galvanized wire to lace through the hardware cloth like a spiral wire- just like a spiral notebook.

I wrapped the wire around a 1/2" dowell the same spacing as the holes in the hardware cloth, then just wound it in. It didn't take that long and I didn't have to poke myself with the wire all the way down- just fed it at the end.

I might choose hog rings next time, that being said!
