who pays for my mistakes?

The way to do this next time is get Barred Rocks, or other barred breed, and learn how to sex them yourself, beforehand. Then no one can pull something over on you or exaggerate their expertise in the sexing dept.

Thanks for your responses! Lesson well learned about how to purchase chickens in the future. Junkmanme... I have thought of trying to separate out the breeds and for most of them there is at least one rooster and one hen. That makes me think they will be confined to cages and I really don't want that for them. Vannessabuffs and silkies don't feel like u are whining I too am in the same boat and feel your pain. Rancher Hicks point well taken, however, it is a sad state of affairs when you can't trust the seller of anything to be upfront about there wares. It may sound corny but I haven't learned the lesson yet that people rarely say what they mean or mean what they say. Oh well..my BAD. All I can do now is search for the best solution in a bad situation. Again many thanks for your input in reaching my goal.

they guy I got my baby chicks at 3 days old...went as far as showing me...of course I was new to chickens and didnt know any better....held them in his hands and pulled wings out and said this is a roo, this is a hen, hen,hen...etc...I bought 15 of them....They grew up...and lo and behold I had 7 Roos!!!! thats 1/2 of my flock.

They were all BEAUTIFUL AND HUGE, and just totally GORGEOUS...I loved them all, but they got real rough with my girls...I mean one would mount, and before he was off 2-3 more were on them...so I had to get rid of several of them. DH said slaughter...I had at first said ok, before we got chickens...eggs/slaugher yeah sounds good.

well, DH said ok, slaughter in 2wks...in the meantime, I posted ads in CL and nothing!!! I posted ads in BYC, again nothing, back to CL..I finally got some replies, and had 4 replies and the first 3 backed out before they came out changed there minds! I was I have to find them homes, I dont want them slaughtered!!!

This one lady, last one, took ALL 6 OF THEM TOGETHER and she mails me pictures of them periodically. They have a good home. It was a hard toss up as to which one to keep...I kept BIG DADDY (cilck on my beautiful babies to see)....and I got rid of the rest. It killed me, but saved them. I wish I had kept big daddys twin...both exactly alike in looks built.

good luck.

i got lucky on straight run, out of 20 i had 3 roo's, ya never know, some people say ya can tell by the pin feathers, others say hold em by the scruff of the neck and they can tell the way the legs hang, never had much luck either way
