Hi I just joined Back Yard Chickens a couple of days ago and I am having a hard time getting any work done. This site is like good book that keeps you buried till you have read every thread on Peafowl. This is our first year raising Peafowl and we have so much to learn and what a great site to learn from.

We purchased this lonely Java from a couple who had a pair, but the male flew the coup. All of the other peafowls don't bother to move when I am in the pen. This Java is wild she runs from one end of the 55ft pen to the other end.

I don't know who to put her with,

Another question I have: Is it okay to put their treats on the ground. I read somewhere if their food hits the ground to pick it up and throw it away.

I know people that visit us and hear our baby monitor must think we are nuts. We have coyote problems, one of them got our beloved turkey off her nest a few weeks ago. The baby monitor works great. It took some getting use to but we keep it on 24/7.

These are the options until I find her a mate.

Trio of Midnight Black Schoulder
Pair Purple
Pair Bronze
2 Pair Inda Blue
2 Pair of White
2 Male Silver Pied
3 Female Silver Pied

Thanks in advance for your help.....

1954,, It would depend on what you would like to have.... Most of the tiime it is not the first generation that you get the nicer birds but it is the next generation that can make different birds ... putting her in with the purples will get you spalding purple females and spalding males split to purple. I like the spalding bronze and that can be in the third generation of the breeding. The mix with Black shoulder birds in spalding are very nice but it taks a few years to get good ones . Think about what you want from the Java and ask again.. connerhills
