Just what it says. When the growing season starts in your area and you have too much of one thing...swap it for something you don't have rather than buying it at the grocery store. Like a co-op, but here on BYC to help those and yourself who want to eat better to be able to through trading produce, hatching eggs, or other goods in trade within our BYC communtiy.

Our SEED SWAP thread is posted here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=330615 Thanks sune42!

Anybody have extra maple syrup? That crap is $7 a bottle here, and the ONLY syrup my pancake happy 13 year old can have!!!!

Mmm I also love Maple Syrup. This year I have a feeling I am going to have lots of extra zucchini, peas and beans. Plus some herbs. I am not growing any broccoli, Brussels sprouts or cabbage and would like some of those. Have to see how much Mother Nature wants to agree with me. I do raise my produce organically, but I can't promise my neighbors 3 houses down won't spray their yards with round up, so take that as you will. My chickens aren't laying yet, but even when they do I have no roo, so no hatching eggs here.

sune welcome girl!! looks like we're the only two

oh well, we can swap! I'm growing okra, squash, sweet corn, green beans, heirloom peas...passed down for 5 generations in my family called mac beans, and lettuce, carrots, tomatoes....that's all I can think of...cucumbers, and then I will have Delaware, Bronze turkey, and maybe duck eggs to swap too.

Oh we can swap anything we find worthy of the swap. I wouldn't put any limitations on anything. Whatever someone needs be it hatching eggs or fertilize(poop) lol!

Too early to tell what I will have too much of, but I am doing some organicly grown redbird popcorn!!! I'm super excited. That is a fall crop though... so you all will have to wait to even see if I get extra.

Other than that, I have your usual "taters" and "maters" kinda stuff. I'll update as I get a better idea of what is going to be producing well enough.

I will trade Delaware eggs for something cool. Throw your best breeds at me... I'm not that picky!

Bout time you got over here tnchicknut!

Oh I will have turkey eggs for trade soon...you two better be out there talking to your plants

I may swap for some of sunes zucchini...yummmmmm. It will take a while for everybody to start swapping but once we have things we want to trade out we can start a swap thread like the egg threads and go to it. I think it will be fun! That popcorn sounds good too. Ya'll are making me hungry!!!!!

yeah, I know... I'm slow. I multi-task to the extreme. Got eggs pipping in the other room, getting my stuff together for work in the morning, checking back here every few moments, and kinda' watching TV. Story of my life. Always, I'm into at least two things at once.

I do have watermelons to plant this year and cantelope and Conneticut Field pumpkins (I don't think it would be worth it to ship those! lol. UPS guy would look at me like I'm nuts).

Later in the summer I will have bantam and standard barnevelder eggs and early fall I will have wheaten maran eggs. So keep that in the back of your minds!

You know what I really would like? Millet, mustard, clover seeds. Oh... I love seeds like I love eggs. I'm just gonna warn ya'll now.

Any one close to me? I would love to participate. Not sure what I'll have to much of yet. My chickens are laying but I don't have them separated yet, so any eggs would be mixed.

Seed swapping is a good idea. I know that it costs me a fortune sometimes to get what I want, and usually I have half a package that I am not going to use, etc. Like lettuce. I want to plant all different kinds, but don't want to buy 10 different packages at $2.50 per pack. Maybe people could post, I have this kind of seed, and I want that kind of seed in exchange.
