I havent really checked my hens lately. I left earlier today around 7 to go to a party and when I got back at 10, I had to put all the birds away. Well the light was still on in the coop so I went in and said goodnite to all the chickens. Then I saw Hope up on the roost and her crop was humongous! I felt it and it felt full so I Checked all the others'. Theirs are big and full but not as badly.

I'm so freacked out. I am reading all the posts that come up under the search right now but any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

The only thing that they have eaten lately is grass, grain, and whatever they can reach through the fence. (that includes poison ivy,weeds,vines.etc) Could they have eaten something from across the fence that caused them to get sour/impacted crops?

Thanks,
Cody

UPDATE: They just packed in food for the night!

Doesn't sound like sour crop. That makes it feel like it's filled with gas and the breath smells bad from fermenting stuff. Moldy feed causes that, like hidden feed in the compost pile or around a waterer. If they are solid feeling, not sure what to tell you.

Or they could have just all packed food in for the night. The important thing is do they STAY that way, and are they hard/full in the morning before the chickens have eaten a lot. How are they this morning?

UPDATE:::::

THey are doing better. I guess they just gorged down on food last night. I will still keep my eye on them.

Thanks guys and gals for all your help!
Cody!!

You're welcome. I'm the self-titled "queen of the sour crop", after fighting to save a chicken for almost 2 months. Her crop was what they call "pendulous", and would have gone sour on a regular basis for the rest of her life, had she lived. RIP, Chicken Little.
