We have 3 hens all approximately 7 months old. Rhode Island Red, Black Star and an Easter Egger. Someone recently started laying. We're not sure if it was our Black Star or our Rhode Island Red or even both. The eggs are brown so I don't think it was our EE. Is there a way to tell who laid the eggs? I've read that they get red faced when they're ready to lay but all three are looking about the same shade of red. Also, I'm not sure if I can ask this on the same thread but what should they be eating now and will the food harm our hens that are not laying yet? Thanks for your help!!

Are any of them squatting when you go to touch them? If they do they might be the ones laying. I don't have a black star but I do have a RIR and her eggs are darker than any of my other brown layers.

They're all squatting. And they're cooing when you touch them. I do have to eggs that are identical and one that is the same color brown as the other two but it has darker brown speckles on it. I'm wondering if both of them are laying since the eggs are different.
