I have some new layers, and I'm having trouble figuring out exactly who is gracing the nest box... specifically I'd like to know who's laying that lovely dark egg! I haven't caught any of the new layers doing their thing, so I'm pretty stumped.

From L-R: Easter Egger, Salmon Faverolle, Barred Rock and then the mystery egg.

Breeds to choose from: Partridge Cochin, White Rock, Barred Rock, Speckled Sussex or Columbian Wyandotte. (There's also two Polish and a Sultan, but I know those eggs will be white.)

Thanks for your help!

Thanks, Corn Pecker! That was the consensus from another friend I asked, too. Hopefully I'll catch her in a nest box soon.

I have Wyandottes that lay the lighter tan eggs and ones that lay the darker tan eggs so my vote is for the Wyandotte!

Okay, this is getting funny. I just came in from collecting eggs, and there are now TWO dark eggs, similar in size. Maybe both the Wyandotte and the Sussex?

Chickens really keep you guessing, don't they?

same with mine most were dark but one layed lighter.

dfdesigns have fun with it, I love guessing things like that let us know who it is when you catch her laying.

My Sussex both laid eggs like the second one.

Guess you're going to have to catch her in the act.
