I want to chime in with another question. I have one black australorp that is 5 months old...she is so big and that maybe why I am so impatient...when am I going to get an egg from this bird?
anyway to add my 2 cents on the question...I have 2 red stars that give me an egg each every single day...they are very nice birds too..very docile.

I think that RIR and Barred Rocks are my two best layers. 1 egg a day and good layers in winter.

Ducks
Honestly they lay more consistently, longer, bigger and very tasty eggs.

If you can get past their messiness and arogant attitudes they are better layers than chickens.

I have 1 BR, 1 BO, 2 wyandottes, and 3 Khaki Campbell ducks and 2 Cayuga ducks.
