Hi all. New chicken mama here. My chickens have just started laying eggs this week. What i am wondering is, why are they so small? I have bard rocks, silkies, Rhode Island reds and a couple of brown ones I don't remember the breed. My question is, will the eggs get bigger? If I wanted large eggs, should I have picked a particular breed?

It’s perfectly normal for new layers to lay small eggs. It takes a while before all their egg-laying plumbing works perfectly. Be patient and they will become bigger in the next month or so.

Some breeds do lay larger eggs than others but in all cases their first eggs tend to be relatively small, as @Pork Pie says, and your RIR will defo lay large eggs when she gets into her rhythm. Be patient!
and welcome to BYC! :frow good to have you with us :thumbsup
