why are my hens eating snow?

:weee....so busy ..my hens are eating snow like crazy..I give them lots and lots of fresh water every day ..and the still rather eat the snow ....:lol: and there water...should I be concerned they seem happy ....not sick at all...maybe they just like the snow....

Lol, my chickens eat snow all the time too! They may like the crisp refreshing coolness of snow over the luke warm well water in the coop.

Who knows why but it's not abnormal.

My birds love to eat snow, even though they always have water available. I wouldn't be concerned.

I noticed my rooster has a swollen waddle this morning..but he is eating and drinking ok...could it be from the cold weather?
 
Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

He may have gotten a touch of frostbite. Make sure your coop is well-ventilated; you might also put a thin coat of Vaseline on his wattles and comb in the evening to protect them from the cold.
