Why are these 2 so quite?

Ok long story short mama hatch 4 of 5 #5 hatched the next day in the incubator and went back to mom that night. At about 1 week 3 of 5 babies vanished in a suspected predator attack. 2 days later the 2 babies where found wondering alone, mama found killed about 15ft away. Babies are gathered amid moved to a broody in the garage as I do not currently have space to brood in the coop. The first night as expected they where very loud and whinny, probably calling for mom. Is ben about 4 days I think and the chicks are very quiet. Like even when I go check on them they don't chirp or talk or anything. The only time they chirp is when I ahm trying to pick them up but when one in my hands they are quiet again.


Is this stress? Broody mama training? Or what. They have been eating and drinking fine though they do seem a little depressed in the brooder.

Yes, sounds like they are waiting for Momma to come for them. They will be fine though..

I hope so. I wish I didn't haveto remove them from the flock, they should be fine with how hot the weather is right now. But I have to get rid of some cockerels before i can put these 2 in the mini pen.

Its just sad I'm use too such a ruckus when i have brooder chicks and these 2 lost 3 siblings and thier mom in 2 days becuase of my carelessness.

Thanks i try not too. I thought the first attack was something smaller like a snake just becuase there was no signs and only the babies missing. So i just want super worried about a larger predator yet becuase in the yearat this housewe have bee lucky.

We live and learn we made adjustments ants the flock is much safer now. It just sticks that I had to lose a good mama to open my eyes
