Went out this morning around 9am to feed my chickens and everything seemed fine. Went back out to check on them around 1pm and one of my hens had passed away! It was 20 degrees Fahrenheit last night and the night before was 16 degrees but they seemed to tolerate it okay, during the day it’s in the 40s. But I’m not sure the temperature did this. She was a 7 month old healthy pullet, wasn’t skinny. She did have I’m guessing water in her crop, it was soft but not to big, she hadn’t started laying yet. The only external problem I found was her vent had something small round sticking out and it was red around it. I’ve added pictures of it bellow. Maybe that had something to do with her death but not sure what it is or what’s going on there. Does anyone know what could have caused this?
