all I read before getting chickens this year, that chickens) they turn their run into mud....
I have 5 adult chickens in 2 cattle panels (each 16 feet long)long and wide odd shaped pen or run
prob cause they are spoiled rotten???/ They are LET OUT EACH DAY RIGHT BEFORE BEDTIME to get worms etc for half hour or so... supervised closely....then they go back in on their own.....
thanks yall

So what are you asking! Why do you have to mow and weed the chicken run! You should not have to weed in the pen/run, the chickens should take care of it unless it is way too overgrown, Was there weeds in there when you put the chickens in the enclosed run?

Probably because it is spring. I have to mow right now too but as soon as the hot dry weather hits I won't have to mow in there all summer probably and not all winter either since the grass doesn't grow much during those times.

that is what I want to know...... Of course I only have chickens... they dont seem to eat the grass...... i guess with the chicken poo it grows even more.... it is that the few chickens runs I have seen, were all dirt... no grass

no it was just a regular grass area... no tall weeds or grass go figure
thanks all

My 12x12 run survived the first summer with 7 pullets in it, but then by the time the winter was over it was toast. Ive since thrown a couple of grazing frames in there and now they have a small source of greens that they can't destroy. I try to let them out but the gardens are so tender at this time of year that they just destroy them as well.

If it was a well established lawn then it may survive for a while or even a whole summer but if it's anything like mine the winter will sound death knell on it.
