Goofy chickens! When their feeders get low and just have crumbs and "dust" in them, I usually dump them out onto the ground. The chickens gather around like it's filet mignon! Why wasn't it good while it was in the feeder?

They find it more fun and exciting and natural to go to the soil and walk around to catch food....I often make the exercise their extinct and they LOVE forraging for food that you sprinkle everywhere in the grass and soil and leaves and that way they all feel more comfortable with each other and prevent territorial ones and they all seem very happy and squak around and even eat more..... it's just different than carving from a dish like a robbot...

I think all chickens are "hard wired" into preferring food off the ground. They require grit to digest their food and what better way to get it than to scarf it off the ground?
