Why does my chicken quack?

Sooo Brother in-law wanted more chickens, as he raises them and we do too. So we thought we’d get him a couple of Brahmas since he has kids who are showing interest in them too. As we know already- Brahmas are super kid friendly. Well, no one has grown Brahmas for sale this time of year, except one lady. Found her online, her ad just said “selling hens” and so I asked if she had Brahmas. She said yes, and we show up and there’s no feathers on their feet and the coloring is off. She said they might be mixed but with what? And I’m already annoyed that she didn’t tell me this before. But it’s dark and cold (we’re in the northeast), and we were exhausted from Brahma searching and coming up empty handed, so we’re just like “eff it, we’ll take them.” Get home and in the light I’m now wondering if this hen is just a young rooster. It’s making weird noises too. And what the heck breed(s) are they? Does anyone on here know?

They look to be mostly Brahma. They do appear to be mixed though. They are both hens, no need to worry about that.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I don’t know much of anything about cross breeding chickens.

Hmm, I don't know.... I've had hatchery quality Brahmas that look an awful lot like these before, and they only had nubs of feathers on their legs. So maybe Brahma mixed, or possibly just poor quality Brahmas. They're lovely either way.
