I've got some Delawares I have 7 hens and 1 roo. I have others total 27 hens, but the roo came with 4 hens. I also have a rd friz bantam roo but he doesn't seem to be able to comsumate things, and a CM that is not old enough yet.
Anyhow I've got one hen that came w/ the roo who has her back torn up. feathers missing etc. etc.
My question is why just her? You would think with that many hens to choose from this would not be the case. I have to seperate her but can't just yet cause I have no place to put her. I've been checking eggs for fertilization and haven't found to many. The four Delaware are the only ones old enough to lay decent sized eggs. I've seen the Del roo go after other hens but the rd friz roo (original to most of the hens) runs and knocks "nearly headless nick" off. Nick does the same to "cowboy curtis" the rd friz.
Is it possible that Nick won't really go after other breeds, seriously? SLW, GLW, CM, Dom.,BO, and Blk Aus.?

The roos just pick favorites. My roo has 13 hens to pick from, but he has two favorites and one hen he doesn't even try to mate with. I suggest a saddle for the girl getting more than her fair share of attention from the roo.
