This is a nearly 1 year old maran hen. She acts fine and seems healthy. However, I don't know why her comb is this color? In person, it looks greyish and splotchy. You can tell that it's red underneath but covered by the grey splotches. I have had her for about a month and it has always looked like this. The breeder thought that it was immaturity that would change. Could that be true? Or maybe a vitamin deficiency?

Sorry photos aren't better...she wouldn't pose for the camera.

Thanks

Are they raised bumps? If so, it looks like fowl pox, if it is smooth, I would say frostbite. If it is frostbit, lather vaseline on her comb once a day to help it heal.

I live in Orlando, FL...I don't think it gets cold enough here for frostbite. Right? Certainly not recently.

It is not raised...so, not fowl pox.

Thanks for trying to help, though. Anyone else have an idea?

Here is a picture using a camera, not an IPad....excuse the fact that she was enjoying a rain shower, though.

Try putting vasiline on it for a couple of days, if that doesn't work, then try a medicine that people use for foot fungus. Does she have lice/ mites? I would treat her for that too.

No lice or mites. I will try vasoline, though. I will move to antifungal foot cream if that doesn't work. Thanks for the help.
