Why isn't my gen laying eggs yet?

My hen is about 31 weeks and still not laying.. I have a Rhode Island Red who is the same age and has been laying for over a month.... help!

Well, I think that might be a rooster and that's why it's not laying! It's tail and wing coloring looks very much roosterish to me. If it is a hen though, Cochins tend to lay later than others.

Because it's a cockerel. You are never going to get eggs from that bird.

That picture is probably of the rooster I had not the hen.. but they are the same breed .. why wouldn't that hen lay eggs ?

Looks like she's ready to lay. They are very slow to start. The Rhode Island Red is molting, so it's doubtful she's laying at all right now. Could be that the Cochin started when the other one stopped, and you just didn't notice.

The red doesn't lay anymore ... hasn't for a long time. . I have a Nother one that is laying but she is not in the picture
