Question? I have had my hens and rooster for over a year ( 2 springs & summers), and no chicks??? They have free range and come in every night, and all lay, so whats up?

The roo is geogeous and big and does all the things nature intended him to do, but still no chicks, and now winter is coming on?? I just never heard of an infertile roo, could it be true? We did pick up another young roo this fall and he is busy doing what he does best, and he can outrun the big guy, so he breeds his share (poor girls). So here's hoping for babies in the spring???
Thanks for any tips
Sarah

You'd have better responses by starting your own thread, rather than tagging onto a 4 year old one.

If your birds are hatchery stock, most will never go broody, or sit on their eggs for the required 21 days. You'll either have to get a known broody hen somewhere or simply use an incubator.

Welcome to BYC.

Well, I added some teens that had been hatched by a renegade hen from a lady, so possibly next summer I'll get a few chicks from them, we'll see...and thanks for the tip, it takes me a long while to slow down and read the directions on how this site works....it more fun just to cuss it allot...:)
