Why no iron?

I keep reading to only give ill chickens children vits without iron. Why is that? Why cant chickens have iron in their diet?

It's not that chickens can't have iron in their diet, just too much for too long may be bad. And human supplements may be too much.
There is evidence that high levels of iron can cause chickens to decrease their eating and drinking. It also can accumulate in the liver causing lesions. And increased levels of iron are related to increased toxic levels of zinc.

Wow thanks. I have been giving my sick chickens my crushed multi and Im sure there is some iron in there. I guess I had better stop that practice.
