Why should pullets not be allowed in nests?

I have three pullets aged six to 12 weeks and no other birds. Of all the spaces in their coop and run, they are spending the most time sharing the large nest box. Is there a reason why I should prevent them from being in the nest before they are old enough to lay? This is the darkest, warmest spot and it is cool here these days.

you don't want them to get in the habit of sleeping or "hanging out" in the nest boxes because they will poop where they rest. Then you have dirty eggs and a mess trying to keep the nest boxes clean.

That makes sense. Once the wind and sleet settles down I'll start going out there at night to take them out of the nest and set them on the roost. Thank you.

If you don't have other hens that are laying, just block off the nest boxes until they are older
