Why the bonus eggs?

So we have 5 beautiful chickens and we almost always get 5 eggs every day. Thry are such good layers and I'm so happy with them
But today is one for my record book.
Today I got 8 eggs from my girls!
How the heck did that happen?!
I know it wasnt leftover eggs from yesterday because I checked them first thing this morning and there was none. This afternoon on my lunch I collected 4 eggs and this evening I went looking for that last egg and my broody girl Spot was sitting in the box still. I assumed she had the egg and when I reached under her I found 4 more!

huh that is weird, could’ve been a back up system or something? I think that Broodies lay faster but I’m not sure…

Spot is my only girl to ever go broody (my girls will be turning 1 the first of June) shes my Blue Azure and she laid 1 egg today I can tell because her eggs are blue. My other 4 girls lay brown eggs so they are the ones who did the extra work today. And I don't know about any of them being backed up...we have gotten 5 eggs practically everyday since beginning of December

I mean its not impossible for hens to lay two eggs in one day. Especially beginning spring when weather warms up, sun is out more, and hormones are raging, lol. A change in diet can contribute as well. Have you switched their feed or added something new?
