"Why the heck do you have chickens?"

Here are my chickens! I have five Black Australorp and I don't know what the three grey ones are. They are all pullets. I have not heard any crowing so far...
I got them in April/May. No eggs yet. But I love going down to the barn and they come to greet me!

They are pretty cute... I kinda wanted to try ducks in the spring... But i think i may just try to do some incubation.

I dig your style! Did you diy your chicken feeder??

I am known as the crazy bird lady where I live, with 12 silkies and a boat-load of quails :p

I first fell in love with the button quails as they were like teeni little chickens about the size of a chick, and then some drama happened with the second male passing and I rushed to get females for my remaining depressed male... 2 years later they have had tons of children and grandchildren, though Rex my starter male has died of old age... He has his family line live on in his many crazy-coloured chicks, and am working on breeding specific colours and tamer quail.

Around the first year of getting the quail, I found an ad on Preloved selling two Silkies, a roo and hen... I told my dad, rang the person up and arranged to come over and collect them. Then the hen went broody... 3 months later those two silkies jumped up to 7, then 3 month after that, 12, both batches of 5 eggs having one boy and 4 girls each! I love my little feather babies and since I used to carry them around in my jumper when they were babies, they love to snuggle into my jumper for cuddles and fusses!

I even had a hen out on Halloween as a mascot... She was super popular! Though due to being floofy, many people mistook her for a kitten, puppy, rabbit and even a ferret! The closest guess was parrot. :lau
