Why Won't My Hen Finish Brooding

We have 45 chickens who are laying well. This spring two hens have gotten broody in two different boxes. I'm good with that because I would like more chicks. The problem is, they will lay on the eggs for about 2 weeks, and then they leave the pile of half developed eggs and brood over a fresh batch. I either want them to brood, or to get off the eggs! Any suggestions to keep them brooding until hatching?

That sounds like odd behavior but we've never had fertile eggs for a broody to sit on. I hope you can get a solution over on the Chicken Behavior forum @BantamFan4Life suggested. Here's a link to get you there:

That happens some times. The best thing to do when you have a broody hen, is to separate them so they will stay one their nest, and not leave for another clutch. I hope you have more success in the future!

Welcome to BYC. Do you have a rooster? If not, their eggs would be infertile and not hatch.
