I have had eggs set for 4 days and on of my EE eggs has cracked! Any ideas why this would be? I have had trouble with the temps fluctuating (I think if was because of the wood stove). One morning I woke up and the temp was 106!!!! I opened the lid and got it back down fairly quickly. The next morning I woke up and it was 94!!!! I have had so much trouble. I'm hoping the eggs are still good. I have a hovabator 1602.

I'd move it far away from the wood stove for starters. Then the cracked egg may be from bacteria.

Probably had a hairline crack to begin with. Heating it just made it worse. I'm going to start candling my eggs before they go in the turners.

I had to turn the electric heat on in the house and stop burning in the wood stove! I found my 1602 held more stable temps that way! And humidity! I am at the end of my first hatch so I am new to this!

I have turned the house heat on and the wood stove off. The temps are more stable now. Do you all think my eggs will still be ok?

a bad egg will also just crack.. discard as it wont incubate...i've heard if the bator hits 105, deda chicks, but my friend has his small bator in front of a window a/c {not too brite} this summer, it went to 106 and held a while, miracles happen, he lost some but ended up with about a 40% hatch ????????

best of luck, you'll do fine!!!!!!!!!!!! email me personally if u feel i can help....

I don't remember the reason for the crack, but when my mom had a crack she scotched taped it, but it was much further along and she knew she had a living chick in it. It worked. Or maybe it would have been fine anyway......idk.
