I was out of town for 7 days. Checked the barn before I left and Meade had not started laying again since her hatch. I got home on Wednesday night and yesterday went to look at her nest site and sure enough she had 2 eggs so I am guessing they had been there for 4-5 days TOPS and both were black, stinky, and starting to seep. Its not been THAT hot here, about 75-80 for highs and the barn is cool. Whats the deal? Is it because she laid them on a site that had previous bad eggs break in it so theres bacteria? That was like 2 months ago though so shouldnt the bacteria be gone by now? I was looking fwd to some eggs for eating so hopefully this is a fixable issue!

This is just an idea... but my silkies are little theives... and super protective of their eggs....

So sometimes my broodies move their eggs from one area to another hiding them from me. Then when they are ready to try to brood them all of a sudden WAM there are eggs from who knows where they had out in the yard or under the deck and moved them back.

Occasionally, those hidden eggs have come out of hiding cracked and no good since they moved them so much it damaged the eggs!

Or the eggs could be from something else other then your duck, and she just claimed them as her own.

Then again, its just an idea!? I didn't want this sitting without an answer.

I would guess that she had hidden the eggs somewhere, and then moved them. My Khakis used to do that when they first started laying, they would bury the eggs in the litter in the coop.
