Here is what I’m looking for, hopefully some of the BYC users have used or use this idea and can give feed back.

I’m wanting to use a WiFi camera the ones that don’t use internet, they put there own WiFi signal out, just like the ones that drones have. I thought about using the one on my drone but don’t want to dedicate my drone to be in the coop for ever lol.

Reason I want this style is simple, we live way out in the rural area, and I know it’s hard to believe but, our only internet choice is satellite internet, which is way restricted on bandwidth usage, and speeds. So trying to run a camera over this internet would be a waste of time.

So if anyone has or does use this style please let me know make and model, pro’s and con’s etc..

Thanks

KG

I installed an old Wi-Fi camera that I had laying around. This unit was slated for the garbage since its prone to hacking however I re-purposed it to the coop. Figure if someone wants to hack the camera and look at my chickens, oh well. Ha ha. This unit is a D-Link DCS-932LB. It requires power however I already had power for a light and heated water container. It has IR night vision which also works great and I even added an app (IP Camera Pro Viewer) to our Roku TV which allows me to see on the big screen TV. I have a small TSC coop so it's kinda tight. I installed one in coop and have one more I'm going to mount outside in the run.

An old phone (a smart phone, not old-old) with a web cam server installed might do the job...just enter the IP of the server, in your browser
