Yes. While the oak tree will make it harder for the hawk to spot your chickens, once it knows they are there, it will make it harder for your chickens to spot the hawk coming.

The truth is that unless you have a completely covered, enclosed "Fort Knox" sort of run, there's no way to make your chickens absolutely safe. Mine free range, and I worry about them all the time. I haven't had losses, yet... but I will. It's a matter of time.

Personally, I'm more worried about roaming dogs and coyotes, though.

And raccoons... and opossums... and...
