Wild Birds in my yard...babies!

Here's another bit to think about - wild birds harbor disease that can harm your chickens. Ever heard of avian flu? It gets into domestic chicken populations though the mingling of wild birds.

In almost all circumstances, wild birds and domestic chickens should be kept apart.

Just let nature take it's course and let your chickens go on their way... far away from those birds.

That's a myth. Most birds don't have a very good sense of smell. We went to a presentation yesterday by a professional wildlife rehaber, and he reiterated that it's fine to pick a baby bird up and put it back in the nest, if you can.

What you shouldn't do is pick it up, bring it inside, and try to raise it yourself. Leave that to the rehabers.

If the baby birds haven't tail feathers they cannot roost. I found a mocking bird once. He was pretty young. I kept him in at night and put him out every morning for a couple of weeks. Momma came daily and brought him treats. And then one day she just stopped so I kept him until he learned to fly and one day off he went. He would come back occasionally but would not get close. Just perch on the window sill and peck at the screen. Sometimes I left food out but he would always fly off when I opened the window.
