Yesterday, while we were mowing and working in the coop, I herd the cries of some wild bunnies that hadn’t even opened their eyes yet. When I went to investigate there was a 4+ foot rat snake on the nest. After killing the snake and making sure that there was a couple feet of grass left untouched I covered the nest as the mother would and left them alone. The mother was seen again today after everything yesterday.
However I am very worried about them because the forecast for the next week or two includes lots and lots of rain. I read about some people making a small shelter for the nests so I did the best I could. I will include photos below.
Is this ok? There is enough room for the mother to get in and nurse the babies.

I know some people would say let nature take its course, but with the amount of rain we’re about to get they would most likely drown without any protection. It is in the middle of an open pasture and their eyes aren’t open so they wouldn’t know where to go. But if this is absolutely bad for them I will take it down.

I don't know for sure. My fear would be mom won't go under it to feed them. So keep an eye out and make sure they have plump bellies daily which will indicate she's feeding them. Mom will only feed them once or twice a day.

I'm sure glad you got rid of that snake.
