Im not sure if this is the right forum to post because they're not preditors, but they could potentially be a pest, lol. And theyre not mt flock. Two wild Canadian Geese have made my pond home for a couole weeks now. I dont have ducks, so theyre fine out there. However, could they potentially attack my chickens whom will roam close? Especially if they make a nest and become broody? Or worse, us? My pond is where we will spend much of our summer outdoor time fishing, drinking around a fire, etc. Id hate to have my kids worry about attacking geese who made our pond their own. My 3 year old is already scared of them, even though they haven't gotten to close. Are they territorial? Should i run them off? Is there a way to run them off? Will they be fine and i should let them stay? Other wild ducks stop in from time to time, but Ive never dealt with geese and they dont seem to be leaving on their own any time soon.

Those geese are Federally protected. That means you can not try to harm them. The pond is also your property. I think you would be able to try and encourage them to find a new home if you kept walking your dog around pond. I don't see a violation of the law in that. The geese are smart to avoid possible predators. That is one reason they like open areas, and water.
I do not see them as dangerous . I do understand your concerns since you have small children. I used to go to a certain forest preserve with my family, and children. There were many Canadian Geese there. The geese never got near us where we were picnicking. We did have to watch our step to avoid those green cigars though.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

When these two geese returned today, they brought with them 6 or 7 goslings. Their nest wasn't here. They would come and go throughout the day. Leave for the night, then come again in the morning. Now that they moved their babies here, i sure hope they don't plan on staying. Sure they're cute and neat to watch, but i have no desire for a flock of wild geese to inhabit my small pond, lol.

Lord howdy, now they've invited their friends, lol. We now have 2 separate sets with babies. I guess this is their pond now, lol. We shall see how fishing goes...
