My neighbor has a pond that usually attracts some migrating ducks for a rest and I've seen a few different kinds over the years. Back in mid-November I spotted one and I'm really not sure what kind it was. It had a black bill and feet/legs, dark brown head above the eye with a lighter stripe underneath, brown breast and white belly. I also saw it diving to feed. It starts moving around at about 40 sec. into this video. (Edited to add I'm just curious what kind it was.)

Going by the hurky jerky movement and bill I'd lean towards hen Ruddy. We get rafts of them on a local lake and they never stop moving or diving.
