Wild Muscovy Ducks laying eggs

Hello,

We have a family of wild Muscovy ducks that have "adopted" us. We truly enjoy them (except the poop!) but they stay on our front porch most of the day. It is a mom, dad and 5 adult baby ducks.

About 3 weeks ago, the mom laid 1 random egg in our bushes. We went away on a camping trip and when we returned, the egg was smashed

Now momma duck has laid another random egg on our front porch on the bricks & she has not built a nest or anything. None of the ducks sit on it but I think they are turning it and they sit "near" it (about a foot away).

Not sure what to make of it...it's not in a nest, their not sitting on it. Could it be like a "gift" egg to our family or maybe the momma duck wants to see how protected eggs would be is she nested here? Any ideas?

She may have laid the egg in the bushes and one of her adult babies rolled it onto the porch. It's that time of year though so you may see her make a nest and brood if she can find a safe protected place around your home, where dogs don't roam and preds aren't close by. and hoses work great for cleaning off poop, as long as they aren't frozen.

And

Muscovy's are awesome ducks it's a shame so many look on them with hate.
