Hi! I love all animals so much. I have been a bird watcher for years but never seen any pheasants. They are basically extinct in the wild where I live. Starting like 2 months ago there’s a wild male that hang out with my chickens all day every day. Most likely he was released for hunting and won’t survive the winter. I found a rehab who is willing to take him and bring him to a sanctuary so he’s not along and so he’s safe forever but I have no idea how to catch him though safely. He’s scared of people but loves my chickens. Any helpful advice is amazing I really want him to be happy I did research and he’s doing this because he can’t find any females which is so sad. 😭 any ideas on how to safely catch him??? Please!

Do you live in UK?
If so, it's a wild pheasant. I used to have 2 which visited the hens every day. Every year there's more released for shoots, so there's no need to worry about him. They won't go extinct😂
The rehab will keep him in a small cage most likely. Let him enjoy the open fields.

Do you 'free range' your chickens? If so, see if he'll follow them into the pen when they go to roost. If not, can you shut the chickens in the coop but leave the door open to the run....he might go into the run.

That would have been my suggestion. Throw some scratch down for your birds and let him go in the pen on his own. Then just close the door. :)

Pheasants do good thru the winter, they are very cold hardy birds. They actually will bury themselves under the snow to keep warm.
