Right now we have 2 huge fires happening around us. And the smoke is so bad I am unable to go outside without coughing. I know that chickens have a weak respitory system. Will they be ok? Or should I find a way to bring them inside?

(Our house is not in danger of the fires)

I remember someone's chickens having trouble with smoke a few years ago. Don't remember the outcome, but they reported blue combs on several. I would check their combs for dark tips as a gauge of how they're doing. Might bring them in if you see signs.

Hope the winds change for you and the fires get put out. My sister and I were in Oregon a couple weeks ago and it looked bad. California is having trouble too, but luckily only 2 smokey days for us so far. Doin' the rain dance for you!

Ok. If I do bring them in I only have a dog crate that is for a large dog. It's much smaller than their coop. Would that be ok?

If you think they are having problems breathing, I would rather be safe than sorry. It is really bad up here in Washington, was just our near Twisp/Winthrop and could hardly breath in my car.

How many do you have? Since it's only temporary, they can probably handle being squished a bit. Make sure all can access the food and water though. And prepare for a mess. Chickens are really good at that.

Well I moved them to the garage. They aren't happy to be so close to their sisters. In

fact I saw a couple of pecks before I left.

Almost one million acres have burned. Today some sun is finally come thru the smoke. The fire closest to us was contained because of the smoke from another fire cooling down the air.

We bought in our hen and her chicks on Saturday but one chickens that stayed seem to be doing ok.
