I am planning a chicken run. My main predators are feral dogs. I have some 72" 2x4 welded wire fence for the main enclosure. Would it be best to bury this fence a bit or just lay 24" of chicken wire flat along the outside of the fence?

I would think so, this is what I plan to do. Just make sure it's strong, and hide it, to prevent any smart predators from finding another way or digging from the end.

Dig your upright fence down for at least a foot. Nail etc. your flat laying wire down side of it and cover all of it. Plant grass or plants on top. So far I have had no trouble except for rats. They will find a way under . Gloria Jean

I didn't burry my fence at all. I bought a 48" roll of chicken wire & had 2ft flat on the ground & the remaining 2ft went up the fence. After a couple of weeks you cant even see the 2ft in the grass. Oh - buy galvanized wire or it will disolve in the first year.

It stopped a fat opossum from getting in. He tried & tried until I finally caught him in the livetrap for relocation.

Works like a charm.

Digging is just a waste of effort, since wire flat on the ground serves the same purpose just as well.

I'd use some of the 2 X 4 instead of the "chicken " wire though, simply because it will last longer.
Just throw enough dirt on top so you can mow over it

bear foot farm is right. ya don't have to dig. but I did. I went down only six inches and came out one and a half feet from the bottom of my fence. I covered it because I wanted to see if anything did or does try and dig down. soon far (5 months) nothing has tried
