First I lost a rooster to a coyote last winter so I have been tightening all my defenses this summer as I get ready for another winter of hungry coyotes. I have 1/4 hardware cloth that covers everything except my roof to the run is still open but is 7 feet high. I lost my rooster free ranging not in the coop too.
That being said I have extra hardware cloth that is 24 inches wide. Everything around the perimeter base is wood. So my thought is I can use 8 inch wide strips buried outside the coop. Thus would give me 3 strips per foot. I've read everyone does 10 to 12 inches. My question is will 8 be sufficient? I'm trying to avoid buying more cloth.
