will be getting new chicks soon. previous chickens were attacked by a very large bear a few years ago. gave the last remaining chicken to my son who has a flock. (didn't want her to be lonely). fencing is installed. will be converting a very large parrot cage into a chicken coop with the hopes that it will be secure enough for them.

U can get a dog “pen” and put it around the coop! Oh also, hot wire works a charm.

Hello and welcome back to BYC!

There is no parrot cage large enough to be a good chicken coop. I recommend you visit the coop and run forum for better ideas.
I have a resident momma black bear that has been living it the woods behind my property since before I bought it over 7 years ago. I have seen her multiple times in my back yard since getting chickens nearly 5 years ago. She avoids them entirely due to the electric poultry netting I have enclosing the flocks territory. Every ground predator I have around here does.

it's a huge cage (4'x4'x5')with 1/4" steel bars. will be adding a nesting box on the side and covering with wood. I'm only getting 4 chickens and it's larger than both my previous coop and most that I've seen advertised.
