Will being outside in the dirt affect chicks poop?

Another newbie question. We've had our girls outside in the dirt run of their coop for the last 2 days - a few hours each day. They are 4 weeks old. My 10 yr. old pointed out to me tonight that their poop is real dark, almost black, (white-tipped though), and fairly firm. Is this normal? I thought it might be just some of the dirt that they've probably picked up pecking around. Any ideas? Should I be concerned? They seem perfectly fine otherwise.

It should go back to normal in a few days. Their systems have to adjust to the different things they injest.
