I have a problem. I have 2 roosters that I love...and only room for one. One is a barred rock and the other is a black sex link. I'm still trying to rehome him but if I cant I was wondering about caponizing him. Will that stop him from wanting to mount my hens? I know it will make it so he can't breed...but will it stop the mounting? I'm familiar with the procedure but I'm not sure how best to sedate him. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Sorry to intrude, and I have no clue about caponizing, but if you are asking caponizing questions, then could I add one? Do capons crow?

So you want to cut open your rooster and take out his testes???

If it was me I’d rather butcher it than put it through a surgery like that. Chickens can’t be sedated like a dog or cat so to me it seems a bit risky.

You are better off making a bachelor pad for him. The mounting most likely won’t stop if he’s a bit older because mounting is part of his life now.

Thats what I was worried about. I dont want to cause him undo pain and I would feel terrible if he passed away during surgery. If it wont stop mounting I wont do it. We have a pen we could put him in but he'd be alone. Not much quality of life for him like that. I'm still trying to rehome him. Just needed to see if this was an option. Now I see that it is not 😕
