Will cedar mulch in my flowerbeds hurt my chickens?

We use cedar mulch to line our garden paths around the yard.
I want to let my chickens out in the yard with us, occasionally, when we sit out under the shade tree.
If they do try to eat it , will it hurt them? They are no longer babies....are about 8 weeks old.
I know they say not to use cedar in the brooder....but I wondered about having it in our yard with the chickens?? Any input about this would be helpful! Thanks !!

It will be no problem at all for your chickens. The reason you don't do it in the brooder is the shavings have a large surface area and release quite a bit of fumes. These fumes can accumulate in a brooder as you are trying to keep it draft-free. Out in the open like that, you are fine.
