Will chickens mate in a cage?

I keep my rooster and hen together in their cage. They have been there for quite a while now. I havent seen them mating. And she hasnt been laying. They are both about a year old. Any suggestions?

How big is the cage ?

How big is the cage? Do you ever let them out, or do they have a run? If the cage is too small, and they feel cramped, they may not feel comfortable enough to reproduce.

that might be the problem. the cage is a little bigger than a rabbit hutch. We keep them in there during the winter. They run loose when the weather gets better.

the hen layed an egg today, but with no shell. im going to give her oyster shell. and i also put a nest box in the cage. anything else i should do?
