I'm from down in Australia and my chicks are only 6 weeks old and will be 3.5 months old on the first day of winter. I've read that hens can start laying around this age or a few months older, but I'm just wondering if my chicks will just wait til spring when it's Warmer?I have australorps, light sussexes and wellsummers if that changes anything! Am curious to hear anyone's thoughts!?

The answer is 'maybe'. I have had it both ways. My EEs started laying in early December, 3 months before spring hit. But my RIR mix and banty Cochin waited until Spring this year to start laying for the first time. And the Cochin is somewhere around 36 weeks old laying her first eggs!

Wow 36 weeks! But thanks fir the reply! I'm curious to see what my girls will do. Although I am getting ahead of myself cause I'm still not 100% sure which ones are girls!!!
