Hi. I have attached a photo of my Muscovy drake to this post; his name is Otis. My question is regarding whether or not Otis will ever fly. He is about 3 months old. We have a female who is the same age who flys just fine. Otis flaps his wings and runs, occasionally hops, but just can't see to fly. Is he too heavy? I have a hard time picking him up because he is a large duck.

At three months he may just not have quite fully developed his wings/flight muscles yet. I seem to remember the girls always picked it up quicker.

Our drake flew as an adolescent, but then once full grown he hardly ever flew--he could if he really felt like it but he rarely bothered to, being a content and easy-going guy. My inderstanding is that Full grown domestic males often border on being a little heavy for easy flight, even when they are in good condition and not overweight.

Overfeeding is something to watch with scovies though.
