Will Our Chickens be Safe from Raccoons?

We're planning on getting hardware cloth to put along the outside within the next few months. The enclosure came with the chicken wire, and so it just needs to hold up for a couple of months, if possible.
Another affordable option is to place electric fence wire along the perimeter. You would just need one wire about 2 or 3 inches off the ground. The stuff is real cheap. Just make a few wooden stakes, 10x 10 I'd do 2 in each corner ( one going each way down the side) and one in the center of each side at the 5 foot mark and screw the plastic insulators to the top of them. Good insurance. I was having a big problem till I did electric wire. No problems since then.

The best situation that I've had relative to Raccoons, was when the birds roosted in an outdoor coop I built for them, 9 1/2 feet off the ground.

No Walls !

Walls are often what confine a chicken so that they become Raccoon Dinner/ snack.

A coop design that requires the Keeper to do something at the end of the day - like close the coop - is just 1 missed day away from Chicken Armageddon.
