I had my turkeys surround a Pygmy a month ago, which we were able to shoot.
I haven‘t had a problem with snakes in my chicken pen, but my chickens will eat smaller snakes. I saw a friend’s chicken eating a copperhead one day.
Now my turkeys always warm me about snakes. I had my older hen standing in the doorway of her coop and giving a snake putt and looking up. My husband came out with his .410 and I stood there with my hoe. My husband was inside the coop and that is when I noticed the copperhead hanging between us on the Wire fence. I was able to get it with the hoe and chop it up. A day later I found a copperhead in my guinea coop, which is attached to the turkey coop. I got out a box of mothballs and placed them around the edges every 6 inches. I haven’t had any more snake problems and even have a couple of nests in the coops.
I also had a big black snake disappear between the coops. I figured he had a hole in the ground. I have plywood flooring in both coops. I eventually caught the big black snake sunning behind my coop.
