So far, my broody rouen has hatched two little chicks. Several more eggs to go. I remember a couple chickens trying to lay on her nest when she was building her clutch. Will she continue to care for the chicks? Or do I need to remove them from her pen? I have her in an enclosed pen so that none of the other chickens/ducks can get to her. Just don't want her to hurt the little chicks. Thanks !!

It might be safer for the chicks if you remove them if she has access to swimming water as the chicks may easily follow her into the water and drown. Otherwise just watch closely for a while and see how she goes. Some animals do very well raising a different species. The other issue you have is the the fact that duck eggs take a week longer to hatch. If you want her to stay on the nest you will have to take the chicks or she may leave the nest to care for them rather than stay on her own eggs.
