My goat was climbing today. She is 2 months pregnant. Her 1st time. She climbed on a dog house and fell to her right side about 3 feet. She jumped up and is acting ok. What should I look for if something is wrong? I am so worried. I got my 1st goats last June. This is my 1st time with a pregnant one. Should I worry or just wait and see?

I am blaming myself for this. I put the dog house in because we just got a 4 month old and she is sleeping in there. I feel so bad.

Goats are climbers. I have never had one breed so I really don't know. I would assume if she acting ok and appears ok after a through body check, she is probably fine.

How long is gestation for a goat? I ask because in a human female a woman can take a big fall in the first trimester (3 months) because the embryo is very well protected behind the pelvic bones. 2 months sounds like it is still pretty early and the baby should still be protected pretty well. My OB/GYN even said I could continue to ride my well trusted horse during those early months while pregnant. There is a good chance your little goat is just fine. I hope so!

Depending on the type of goat, 145-160 days.

ETA: Gestation is 150 days. Smaller goats kid sooner and larger breed kid later, much like chickens!!!

Thank you chickengrl. I am just worried. My 1st time like I said with a pregnant goat. I feel so bad. I put the house in there for the new goat. The prego one won't let the new one in her house. I just want to do everything right and am really sad right now worrying.

I am no expert but I think she should be fine. We had a goat jump off our stairs and land on her side.... on top of a T Post. She had to be rushed to the vet and operated on to close the wound. She ended up doing fine and had a healthy baby a month later. She is the "top" goat and has always beat up on the others if they get in her way, while pregnant or not and they have always been fine as well.

Hi, I have been. Raising goats for almost 3 years, and seen them butt each other very hard, pregnant or not. I feel confident your goat will be just fine. Deb

Don't worry..she should be fine...one of ours got kicked by a mini horse with one month to go.we still got 3 healthy lil ones.

Aww, hoping all will be alright. They're very hardy, and being jumpers/climbers they can take a pretty good fall. I know it's hard not to, but don't feel bad...dog houses and other structures in goat pens are fairly standard since they love playing king of the mountain. If it's a really slick surface you could always add something to it with more traction.

Don't worry Malinas ( my goat ) first few months preggers she was jumping clearing a 4 ft fence she bounces like she has rubber feet but my male goat needs help he is a bit more on the heafty side and doesn't bounce as well as Malina does. I have a brick grill in back Malina gets up there even now and she is ready to pop any minute and she is jumping off it of course now she is doing it a bit slower but she still climbs. I have only seen her fall a handful of times jumping up on lawn chairs and the table outside.

We have to find new ways to feed our cats cause she will eat all the cat food and every time we put it up some where for them she finds ways of getting up there.
I think your goat will be fine.
