Here's what I have planned for my quail pen. It's an existing hutch with a wire front. It's 4 feet tall now but I'll divid the inside in half so I have two levels and then make a wire pen to sit below the hutch.

So in all it would be three 4x8 pens.

I'm not planning on breeding for color - just for meat and eggs.

How many can be in the top two pens (assuming I use the bottom pen for birds ready to be butchered)?

Well with a 4x8 size your gonna need some nets to catch birds

but 1sq foot per bird so 30-32 per pen.
The design is good I think.

I know, lol! Can't pass it up though since it's free! I'll just have to spend a few bucks on a big butterfly net.

That should be plenty of birds to harvest some and hatch some.

make the bottom slanted a little to roll eggs to the front. or you will have to get a little egg scoop on a stick like I had to make
