I found this ad on Craigslist, and I'm wondering if anyone else is thinking of going!

I would have to leave at 8 AM to get there in time for the sale beginning, but I'm considering going just in case some call ducks end up there. I want call ducks so badly, I'll do almost anything in hopes that I can get some.

If anyone else is thinking of going, we should meet up and we can talk chickens and browse the sales together! I have to promise myself not to buy any birds aside from what's on my wanted list, though--my flock is getting a bit big!

Anyway, I hope someone else is thinking of going! I want to check it out. If anyone wants to carpool, I can pick up people on the route to Wilton from Penn Valley. I'm going to call for directions right now!

Dang, I'm going to the livestock (and poultry) auction in Escalon on Friday, so I'll probably miss this one. I'm thinking it's probably a smallish, local auction, but hoping someone else who's been there before will chime in. We've been to the auctions in Valley Springs, Escalon and Roseville. I think Roseville is the largest of the 3 that I've been to. If you go, I hope you'll let us know how it was!

Oh, wait... I think we did go to the Wilton auction late last year. Is it held at someone's private property?

I'm not sure, but I'm assuming it is because it just leaves a phone number for getting directions. If you did go, how was it? Was it worth driving to? I'll probably pass if there's not a decent variety--after all, I'm mostly after fairly unusual colors of OEGB and call ducks at this point, and maybe some more seramas.

I'm going to look up the Escalon and Roseville auctions, too--Roseville is only an hour from me, and I'm not sure about Escalon but I'll look into it.

Personally, if you're looking for something specific, i.e., call ducks, I'd pass on this one. The people were friendly, they were organized, but... it was a very small auction. My neighbor and I go because we sell chicks and ducklings that we hatch. Roseville is larger, as is Escalon, but Escalon is probably a bit of a drive for you. Since we're going to Escalon tomorrow, I'll try to keep an eye out for call ducks and let you know if there were any. The only auction where we've seen a nice variety of unusual birds is Valley Springs. Seem to be quite a few people out there who raise pheasants, quail, etc.

I actually just resolved the call duck search, so that's out of the way! And now that I'm spending most of my available funds on poultry already, it's probably best to for me to decide not to go to any auctions soon. Thanks so much for your thoughts on the auctions, though, it's great to know they're out there so I can maybe attend some in the future! It would be a great way to get out on a dull weekend and talk fowl.

Best of luck at the Escalon auction--I hope you find your dream bird there and have a fun time!
